Conditioning for Rugby
It is no exaggeration to say that conditioning can win or lose a rugby match. Big games are won in the final
minutes, when fatigue sets in, and only the fittest players are left standing. Developing speed, strength and power are all very important, but if you lack good conditioning to back it for 80 minutes, you’re like a Ferrari with no fuel tank- impressive to look at but ultimately useless!
Conditioning is perhaps the most misunderstood physical ability. 99% of players or coaches are stuck in the traditional model of running till they puke, of equating suffering with effectiveness and doing more more MORE. Not only is it an inefficient use of time and an outdated model of training, it can negatively impact performance and injury risk too, particularly during the season.
In this condensed, quick fire ebook I’ll give you my top 10 tips for a more scientific, more productive, more efficient way to condition for rugby. This is exactly how I train my professional and international rugby players (who I think demonstrated some pretty good conditioning during the world cup even if say so myself!).
All the key elements of conditioning are covered- the science of fatigue, conditioning philosophy, training methods, pre-season and in-season modifications, periodisation- all the tools you need to create a top notch conditioning programme for yourself.
